A beginners guide to facial fillers

Fillers enhance and improve the plumpness of your skin, taking years off your face. But which is best for you?

We’ve put together a blog to breakdown the three main types of facial filler: PRP, PRF and HA, to break down the jargon and explain the different uses and benefits of each treatment.

1.What is PRP?

PRP is short for platelet-rich plasma and it’s produced using your own blood. You may have also know it as a “vampire facial”. PRP is a highly powerful antioxidant that when injected can reverse unwanted signs of aging and reinvigorate your skin. It harnesses the power of blood platelets to trigger accelerated healing deep down in the skin. This means that when PRP is injected into your skin, the concentrated proteins activate collagen growth and heal and plump the skin.

Here’s how the therapy works:
a) Your blood is taken from your arm.
b) It’s put in a centrifuge machine with some added ingredients to separate the PRP cells from regular blood cells.
c) Once the PRP has settled as a clear solution at the top of the vial, and blood is at the bottom, the clear PRP fluid is drawn up into a syringe.

d) The PRP is injected into any areas that require some extra volume e.g. your cheeks, under your eyes or around your mouth.
e) Dr. Bhar also uses a technique where micro-quantities are injected into many different areas which achieves a subtle, even finish.

2. What is PRF?

PRF stands for injectable platelet reduced fibrin. PRF is exactly the same as PRP, but no other chemicals are added before injecting it, so it contains a stronger concentration of youth-enhancing platelets, resulting in greater regenerative effects.

3. What is HA (dermal) filler?

PRP and PRF have incredible effects on their own, but they reach new heights when injected simultaneously with a dermal HA filler like Radiesse or Juvederm. The HA stands for hyaluronic acid. It’s already found in the body and works to renew volume underneath the skin. It’s the perfect option for anyone suffering with sunken skin or wrinkles, and is looking for tauter, plumper skin.

4. How long do the results last?

Patients who undergo a double treatment of PRP and HA or PRF and HA report they can see and feel the effects within a few minutes, with long-term effects lasting well beyond six months.
